AustChrome, a leader in reclamation and reconditioning technologies, has entered an exciting new era with actions currently underway to expand our operations in Central Queensland.
Our company, which now operates two key workshops in Mackay, will open the doors to a third cylinder service centre next month – directly opposite our current site.
The new facility will be dedicated to the reconditioning of large hydraulic cylinders to service Central Queensland’s dynamic mining sector.
And clients can look forward to more efficient turnaround times, high quality repairs and work undertaken in a contamination controlled new workshop. We will deliver even better customer service, through increased capability, ensuring that all deliveries can be met on time and in full.
With the new expansion we will double our current capacity, which in turn will provide many additional permanent, full-time jobs in the Mackay region.
This will take the business to the next level in terms of capacity, keeping pace with increasing market demand and further growth expectations.
Extensive range of services
AustChrome continues to provide a broad range of services including chrome plating, hydraulic cylinder repairs, large capacity machining services, and multiple thermal spray coating services.
It’s the only business in Mackay and Central Queensland with the capacity and expertise to undertake chrome plating and HVOF coatings and can process on very large components.
Our chrome tanks can handle a wide range of hydraulic cylinder rods, shafts, and suspension type componentry, particularly relevant for the mobile mining equipment sector.
We repair and overhaul small to very large hydraulic cylinders, performing a complete in-house offering of services, including cylinder chroming, rod straightening, resealing, and pressure testing.
Also, it is the only business in Central Queensland that offers high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF). Other thermal spray coating services include arc spray, and plasma transferred arc (PTA) coatings.
Thermal spray can be used for cost saving repairs on an extensive range of componentry for the mining, agricultural, sugar and marine industries.
Our current facility covers about 4,000 sqm in floor space and the new facility will add an additional 2,300 sqm.
The new facility will be housed in a building previously occupied by BlueScope Steel and a total new fit-out is now underway.
The disassembly and assembly of hydraulic cylinders – now carried out in an existing workshop – will be relocated to the larger new premises.
In addition to the new facility being fully operational, we have also expanded our thermal spray operations, with to the end result being more than double the current capacity.
Supporting the local economy
AustChrome currently employs over 110 staff, covering two shifts and can operate up to seven days a week, as required.
The business expansion will create many new employment opportunities in the Mackay region in the coming year.
Our company has invested in the latest machinery to accommodate the largest cylinders in the market.
We provide industry leading, large capacity turning, horizontal boring, vertical boring and milling services including new, high-quality computer numerical control (CNC) machines.
The new facility includes purpose-built cylinder service benches to accommodate the largest mobile mining cylinders.
Expansion of our hydraulic machining services is also underway with new horizontal borers, new lathes and cylindrical grinders adding to the capacity increase.
